Milkfish is a renowned fish in South East Asia and belongs to a family named Chanidae. Silver in color, it is a fish of Pacific saltwater and lays eggs in shallow water as it can survive in low salinity. 

It is the national fish of the Philippines where it is called by the name “bangus”. There is a city known as Dagupan in the Philippines which is known as “bangus capital of the country” where a festival is celebrated every year in the months of March and April to pay thanks to God for an abundance of milkfish in their city. 

The other name for it is Bandeng while the scientific name is Chanos Chanos. It was first discovered in the Philippines and soon spread to Indonesia, Taiwan, and further the Pacific region.
